Pay your Calgary property taxes by June 30
Property tax bills were mailed out on May 25, and the payment deadline is June 30. On July 1, a 7% penalty is applied to the unpaid account balance and an additional 7% on October 1, if a balance remains.
It is important to remember that your annual tax bill must be paid in full, even if a complaint has been filed on your property assessment. If you are enrolled in TIPP (Tax Installment Payment Plan) and pay your taxes monthly, no action is required.
It’s time to complete your Assessment Request for Information (ARFI)
The City of Calgary has started to send out the 2023 Assessment Request for Information (ARFI) to all Calgary property owners and managers. It is strongly encouraged that you comply with the requests as this can affect the ability to file a complaint against your 2023 Property Assessment(s).
ARFI submissions can be done online through Assessment Search or by completing the paper documents provided with the ARFI request letter. If the deadline has passed, we would still encourage you to send in your completed ARFI to AssessmentARFI@calgary.ca
Why is an Assessment Request for Information (ARFI) response important?
An ARFI is your opportunity to provide accurate information to help municipal assessors calculate your assessment. These are usually mailed out in June or July each year.
You typically have 60 days to respond from the date of request.
If you do not respond to the ARFI within the specified time period, you may lose your right to challenge the assessed value, which is critical if you believe your property taxes are too high. A higher assessment means higher taxes.
2023 Pre-Roll Consultation Period & Authorization of Agency (AOA)
In preparation for the upcoming 2023 Pre-Roll Consultation Period commencing on October 3, the Authorizations of Agency for the 2023 tax year can be completed through the assessment search system.
IMPORTANT: In an effort to provide City council with more timely budgeting, the Assessment Department will be concluding the Pre-Roll Consultation Period two weeks earlier than years prior, highlighting the need for early registration.
Why should you participate in the Pre-Roll Consultation Period?
Participating in the Pre-Roll Consultation Period provides non-residential and multi-residential property owners the opportunity to obtain the 2023 assessment values. In addition, if you are an existing Altus Group client, this allows us to review and negotiate the values, prior to the assessment roll being finalized and mailed in January 2023.
Due to an improved investment environment over the past twelve months, we expect numerous transactions influencing the assessment base and this could result in significant tax increases for various asset classes.
How to participate in the Pre-Roll with Altus Group
To participate in Pre-Roll, Altus Group will need to be authorized as your agent through Assessment Search for the 2023 Roll Year. To assist with completing the agent authorizations we have developed the following information sheets to guide you through the different authorization processes:
Property Registration: refer to this information sheet if you have not previously created an Assessment Search account.
Updating Authorization of Agency: refer to this information sheet if you only need to update your authorizations for the 2023 Roll Year.
Linking & Authorizing New Assessments: refer to this information sheet if you need to link new assessments to your account and complete the authorizations for the 2023 Roll Year.
Rural Alberta assessments & tax bills
2022 property assessments continue to be released across the province and our Rural markets team can provide a thorough review of your tax burden and advise whether your assessment is fair, or whether an appeal should be filed.
